The 2017 White Lake Area Holiday Walk took place on November 17th and 18th. The White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce or any participating Holiday Walk stop offered Holiday Walk Map/Entry Forms of participating merchants, Santa's time and locations. Visitors were able to submit their completed Holiday Walk Map/Entry Forms and enter a drawing to win a $50 White Lake Gift Certificate. This year's walk included: Old Fashioned Carriage Rides,Trolley Rides, meeting Santa, a tree lighting ceremony and dozens of local businesses that offered Holiday Open Houses with special promotions.

Michigan's Heritage Park at Hilt's Landing is a relatively new addition to the Lakeshore Museum Center. It consists mainly of an outdoor trail that brings you through 10,000 years of area history. The sites included along the trail are: the Mastodon Dig, Wigwam Village-1650, Fur Trade - 1760, a Settler's Cabin - 1830, a Civil War Camp - 1861-1865, the Logging Shanty - 1880, a 20th century Farmhouse, and Civilian Conservation Corps -1933. These are all interactive sites along the trail that have staff dressed in period clothing and portraying life in that era. They take you through some of the daily activities in that time and are able to answer questions that you may have about the period.

Heritage Park is also host to many special events during its open season, which is from May to October. One of the events that Heritage Park hosts is a Civil War Weekend. This includes reenactments done by local reenactors, a civilian and military fashion show at the pavilion, and many more themed activities. Some of the other events hosted at the park include "Make & Take" days with activities like candle dipping, finger weaving, and corn husk dolls, a vintage craft show, the Honoring National Heritage PowWow, and spinning workshops.

For a small admission fee you get to enjoy this gorgeous park and experience Michigan history. It is the perfect place to spend some quality family time and enjoy the beautiful Michigan weather!

The Whitehall Community Gazebo is a great recent addition to the Whitehall area. It only opened last July, but is getting its fair share of use! The dream of local Becky Nordlund, whose family owns the landmark store Pitkin Rexall Drug & Shoppe, who just wanted a place for the community to come together. The beautiful 24' gazebo is located in Goodrich Park with great views over White Lake. It is the perfect spot for family picnics, weddings, and small concerts. The gazebo has already been host to several weddings and engagements and the "Summer Ain't Over Yet" concert series hosted by Harbor Light Credit Union last September.

Shortly after Nordlund presented the idea to the City of Whitehall, two Whitehall High School seniors, Alex Mark and Taylor Boyd, chose the construction of the gazebo as their Senior Project. Finally, a collaboration started between Ms. Nordlund, the seniors, the Montague-Whitehall Rotary Club, and the city. The $35,000 gazebo was funded with $10,000 donations by Nordlund and the Montague-Whitehall Rotary Club, with the remaining funds coming from the board of the city's Tax Increment Funding Authority.

Winberg Construction was the general contractor for the project and built the gazebo from maintenance-free materials, energy efficient LED lighting, and had election outlets for sound systems. There is a fundraiser ongoing to build a sidewalk that will lead up to the gazebo. Any person, organization, or business can donate and if they donate $100 their name or company logo will be placed on a 5' x 5' section of the sidewalk.

The Whitehall Community Gazebo is the best place in town to just get together with all of the family and enjoy beautiful Goodrich park and White Lake.

RE/MAX by the Water had the honor of being the core sponsor for this year's annual 4th of July Celebration Parade in the downtown Whitehall/Montague Area. It was tons of fun being in the parade, and getting to hand out water to tired looking adults or candy to children was a blast. It was tiring work, of course, as the size of the crowd of onlookers was enormous. Most people would not expect such a turn out from a place such as the White Lake Area, but the turnout was an impressive size. With more than 100 floats coming from local organizations, business, and people, it was no surprise that it felt like the entire town had shown up to cheer on the beautiful parade. It's little things like this that make the White Lake Area a truly exceptional place to live.

The historic Howmet Playhouse in Whitehall, MI is a true gem in West Michigan. Built in 1916 as part of the "little theater" movement of the early 1900's by local residents, the Playhouse is older than the famous Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts (formerly the Michigan Theater) in downtown Muskegon by 13 years. Based on the architecture of the LaSalle Theater in Chicago, fundraising efforts were lead by playwright, author, and lyricist Frank Ramsey Adams (lyricist of the popular song "Guess Who's Kissing Her Now") and the construction of the theater was lead by local builder James Nufer.

"The Grand Old Lady" as she is affectionately called by locals, still features several special architectural features-- a curved cyclorama (back wall of the stage), still made of the original plaster and lathe (one of the last theaters in the country to still have one), a manual hemp and sandbag rigging system, and original steam radiators that were used to heat the theater until April 2011.

The theater has been in continual operation since she opened in 1916, and is still the jewel of White Lake, busy almost every single weekend of the year with music, film, community events, youth theater performances and professional theater performances. Tickets are affordable and she is supported completely through ticket and rental revenue, grants, and the generosity of individual donors. One of the most special aspects of the theater is that her history spans many generations—many couples tell stories of kissing in the balcony when they bring their grandchildren or great-grandchildren to the theater for a show. There must be something in the air—in the last two years she has hosted a marriage proposal and a wedding. You don't want to miss the chance to experience this special place—she will stay with you forever.

Here we have access to 34 miles of bike trails. Some of this is due to the "Rails to Trails" initiative utilizing the past railroad easements. The two trails the connect are the Hart-Montague bike trail and the Fred Meijer Berry Junction Trail. You'll pass an extensive variety of sights including orchards, wildlife farm fields and woods. Towns you will pass through include Hart, Shelby, New Era, Rothbury, Montague, Whitehall. In the Montague Whitehall area you get the additional treat of viewing a variety of sculptures along that trail.

Whitehall is a great area for a unique shopping experience with hometown privately owned stores such as Pitkins Drug & Gift Shoppe, The Corner House of Gifts, Hunt's Hardware,The General Store and Hokey Pokey. Good restaurant recommendations include Harbor View Grille, Sam's Bistro, Crosswinds On White Lake, Pekadill's and the always busy-for-breakfast Gary's Restaurant.
