If you're ready to dive into some local White Lake area history there are three places that you will have to visit. The first must-see place is located in Montague and, fittingly, is the Montague Museum. This museum features local area artifacts including logging era artifacts and other items unique to local area history, like a dress worn by Montague's own Nancy Ann Fleming, who was crowned Miss America in 1961. The other two places are located over the bridge in Whitehall by the White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and are the C&O Railroad Caboose Museum and Dr. Meinhardi's Apothecary Shop. The Caboose Museum is an actual railroad caboose that was renovated into a museum and features artifacts from the railroad history of Montague and Whitehall. Dr. Meinhardi's Apothecary Shop is a restored 1900s Whitehall doctor's office and apothecary shop. It features a medicinal herb garden and displays artifacts that you would have found in a turn of the century doctor's office. Make sure you check out these neat little spots in the White Lake Area featuring our unique local history.
