Congratulations to two Kentwood students on their participation in the Greater Grand Rapids Regional Spelling Bee! The bee was held at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum on March 10. Eighth grade student Larry Goto and fourth grader Aditiya Garud competed against 20 other participants for the opportunity to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee to be held in Washington, DC.Larry stood out from the other contestants by exhibiting courtesy and respect to those he was competing against, going out of his way to be helpful and encouraging to them during intermission. Aditiya was one of only four participants from the fourth grade to compete at this impressive level! I expect we’ll see Adititya in this competition again in the years to come. The champion of the competition, eighth grader Lily Mears from Lakeshore Middle School, will compete as speller #117 at the 2015 national spelling bee on May 27-28. Watch the competition LIVE on ESPN!
