The 6th Street Bridge was built in 1886 and is the longest and oldest metal truss bridge in Michigan. It has four spans and crosses the Grand River. It was designed and built for $31,000 and faced demolition in 1975 but was saved by concerned citizens. The bridge is 536 feet in length and 19 feet wide with two lanes. The bridge was renovated in 2012 with a $1.8 Million federal grant and $472,000 from the Downtown Development Authority.
