    When I was looking for my first home, everyone suggested that I check out the Alger Heights neighborhood. It continues to be a desirable neighborhood today as I take several clients through this area and show these homes daily. Located between the divisions of Eastern/Burton/Kalamazoo/28th, there are loads of great starter homes! Meijer is located right at the corner of 28th and Kalamazoo! This neighborhood is also near Woodland Mall, shopping, and 131 access. Oh, and try Real Food Cafe while you're there. It's a hidden breakfast spot secret!

    We started off filming downtown Alger and proceeded to enjoy breakfast at Real Food Cafe. After breakfast, we headed to film some of the homes in the area. Finally, we ended the morning at Mackay Jaycees Park. Alger is a smaller community on the southeast side of Grand Rapids and a gorgeous place at that. On the main stretch, there is what seems like one of everything: a hardware store, breakfast place, bank, brewing company, and the list goes on. Alger is a great neighborhood popular with first time home buyers and those looking for a community feel in the city. We have had nothing but great experiences in the area!

    Living in Alger Heights for over 20 years, I have seen many changes. The newest additions to my neighborhood are the curb-cut rain gardens. Through a grant provided by the MDEQ (Michigan Department of Environmental Quality) there will be 20 gardens planted in the Alger Heights and Garfield Park neighborhoods. There are already 4 gardens on my street. These gardens have been designed and installed by Plaster Creek Stewards. The purpose of these rain gardens is to help improve the quality of water in the Plaster Creek Watershed. The rain gardens are young and just getting started. I am looking forward to looking out my front windows and seeing the progress as the plants and flowers grow and bloom.
