    Legacy Park
    Opened in May of 2019, Legacy Park is part of the revival of downtown Ada Village. It runs along the Thornapple River and features a new green space with a playground, public restroom, picnic area, and an amphitheater. There is also a sculpture area dedicated to the late Rich and Helen DeVos.

    Also in the area is the Ada General Store which has provisions such as ice cream, coffee, and donuts. There is a nice fire pit area for cooler days - all of which overlooks the river. It's a great place to hang out with the family on a nice day and was wonderfully designed and constructed.
  • Another reason I love Ada is Curtis Cleaners located at 6745 Fulton. Manager Cheryl Ramsay has a friendly and efficient team, and I am always greeted with a warm smile and friendly hello! Curtis Cleaners in Ada offers excellent customer service, free pick up and delivery, and monthly specials. This month you can get 20% off three or more pants, and you always get your sixth shirt done for free.

    When you do drop by, make sure to view the photography on the walls. It is the work of employee Cassi, owner of Bending the Branches Photography and Videography. Cassi specializes in wedding photography and videography as well as engagement and high school senior portraits. She also has an open-air photo booth for your special events. She will be at the Lowell Expo on March 25th from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. and will be offering a discount on wedding packages.   • The village of Ada, established with the first trading post by Rix Robinson in 1821, is full of charm and smiling faces, cute boutiques and good eats. But the NEW VILLAGE, started 7/15/15, will bring even more enrichment to the lives of those who reside and visit.The following 10 design principles, found at the link below, will bring many improvements to our already characteristic village:
    1. Take full advantage of the beautiful natural assets, specifically the Thornapple River.
    2. Create a community hub/gathering place in the heart of the village.
    3.Streets are to complement Ada's village feel and promote safety through slower speeds.
    4. Improve walkability.
    5. New buildings will be quaint with an historic feel.
    6.Reconfigure the Shopping Center to allow for more trees, green space, and reconnection to the river.
    7. Balance residential and commercial uses.
    8. Encourage shared parking.
    9. Expand outdoor recreation areas.
    10.Establish standards that ensure the community's vision.
    So many great things are happening in Ada! Living here is a true pleasure!

    All around Ada are our slogan signs: Shop It, Bike It, Walk It, Live It. I would like to focus on Shop It:

    I had the pleasure of chatting with Karen Barritt about her consignment boutique Village Kids, located at 6739 E. Fulton, Ada. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Village Kids offers boys and girls clothing in sizes from newborn to young teen. There are boutique brands such as Matilda Jane, Mini Boden, and Lilly Pulitzer, and mall brands like Gap, Gymboree, Abercrombie, and American Eagle. All items are in "excellent" to "like new" condition. There are also locally-made hair bows and accessories, bibs, burp cloths, and pillow cases. The selection is large, 200 new items are added daily, and the store is merchandised beautifully! It makes for a fun shopping experience without the big price tags!

    If you have clothing you would like to sell, no appointment is needed, and you will be paid as your merchandise sells. The times of the year with the highest exposure to buyers are back-to-school and end of seasons: July and January/February.

    Besides being a successful business owner, Karen is also involved in the community of Ada. She recently was a Trunk or Treat sponsor and she will also be a sponsor of Tinsel, Treats, and Trolleys in December. To return the support that Karen gives the community, please shop Village Kids on Small Business Saturday on November 26th.

    The historic Ada Covered Bridge was built in 1867 for $3,000. It was designed and patented by Josiah Brown in 1857. In 1979, the bridge's roof collapsed but was repaired. Shortly thereafter, the bridge completely burned down and was totally rebuilt with help of the Amway Corporation.

    Shaggy Pines Dog Park has 15 acres completely fenced in. There is a mile jogging and hiking trail. They also have a dog pond and sand hill for climbing and digging. When they are done they have do-it-yourself dog wash areas with tubs.

    Ada Township Park is located at 1180 Buttrick Ave SE, Ada, MI 49301. It has entrances off of Buttrick and Grand River Dr. It was built in 1976 on 57 Acres. There are soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, tennis courts, playground, picnic pavilions, nature trail, paved paths, and fishing pond for children 12 and under.

    Farm to Ada
    Farm to Ada is a local event that will be held September 17-26th. Residents will find some favorite Ada restaurants teaming up with vendors from the Ada Farmers Market. They will be making signature entrees that will be available during this week. So, come try these meals and celebrate the partnership of locally sourced ingredients with local restaurants.     The Ada Farmers Market is open on Tuesdays, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. The market started June 9 and will continue to October 27. You can find it at the Community Church parking lot located at 7239 Thornapple River Drive. Lots of parking is available on-site and nearby.

    Careful, don't blink! This is a quiet downtown area with only a few businesses, but amazing to walk through. Right now the streets are torn up for repaving (September 2015), so it is difficult to navigate. Just use caution! If you get frustrated with the traffic, stop and have an ice cream! There are two choices of locations. And don't miss the smallest McDonald's restaurant I have ever been in - there's not even a drive-thru!
