My husband, Chris loves this park. One of the first places he took me to when we moved here from Atlanta was Grand Mere State Park. Back then the long trek to the beach was well worth it. Now, 20 years later, it is a bit more difficult for me to go and enjoy this lovely beach. There are no restrooms at the beach and you have to climb through the dunes to reach the beach. This park has large sand dunes and one mile of Lake Michigan shoreline to enjoy. The three Grand Mere inland lakes (North Lake - 62 acres, Middle Lake - 47 acres and South Lake - 13 acres) are hidden behind the dunes on over 1,000 acres of undeveloped woods and sand dunes. There are unmarked hiking trails that are used in the summer for hiking and in the winter for cross country skiing. There is a ½ mile marked nature trail that is great for small children. For the fisherman there is a boat launch on Middle lake. At North Lake you will find a picnic area with a playground for the kids and grills for dad. The Lakeshore Rotary Club has help build a lovely area park at North Lake. They recently had a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony on June 18, 2015 (I will need to go back and take a look at new the park). This park is very popular with bird watchers. Almost 250 species of birds migrate to this park each season.
