For all of those who grew up in the '50s, '60s, '70s, and to the present day, wintertime, snowpack, and a certain area on the north side of Groesbeck Golf course meant a legendary sledding experience down the "Flying Angel" hill. Even if you didn't personally fly down the hill toward the drop-off that launched you into childlike exhilaration, you certainly knew or heard of many others that did. But like Federal's Department store in Frandor, Dog n'Suds on Michigan Avenue, and the wooden roller coaster at Lake Lansing, the Flying Angel now becomes a fond memory. Reconstruction is occurring (March 2016), and 1/3 of the historic sledding hill has been lopped off. Improvements to the golf course and to the drainage in the surrounding areas has apparently necessitated this earth-moving change. Groesbeck remains a nice asset for the community and its 16 holes will again become 18 after the work has been completed next year. O' concussion, where now is thy sting?
