There were three successful first days for Byron Center Schools this fall 2020. School is in session full-time and the kids could not be happier, even middle schoolers. Dr. Macina gave his report to the Van Singel Fine Arts Council members, as he does every month. The Van Singel Fine Arts Center was constructed by the Byron Center School District and opened in the fall of 1998 at the request of community fine arts enthusiasts. The Council is committed to fundraising the operational costs of a district Fine Arts Center in order to provide arts experiences to a formerly culturally underserved population including Byron Center students and West Michigan residents.

The Van Singel Fine Arts Center has offered access to the arts to the Byron Center community for nearly 20 years. Come see a play with parking that is free and easy. Here's proof of Van Singel's impact: in the years prior to the Van Singel's opening, Byron Center's High School student participation was 10-23 students in Marching Band, with 16 students in Visual Arts. The Orchestra, Jazz Band, Jazz Orchestra and Theater program did not exist.

Today, growth in Byron Center is exploding and Van Singel's impact continues. There are 180 students in Marching Band, and 60 students in the Jazz Ensembles. Remarkably, the Byron Center Jazz Orchestra was recognized as one of the Top 15 in the United States. The students had the opportunity to perform at the Lincoln Center in New York. Today, there are over 120 students in the growing visual arts program where they learn web design and animation, film and video, and traditional painting and drawing. We are thankful for this outstanding organization, creatively impacting Byron Center.
