Where were you when the total eclipse of 2017 happened? Some of us were sitting on the large patio at Railside Golf Course in Byron Center, sharing eclipse glasses and stories of the last eclipse. It was a great day for golf and all the proceeds from the Byron Center Chamber event are earmarked as scholarships for local graduating high school students.

Where will you be in 2024 when the eclipse happens again? Hopefully you can join us at Railside for a wonderful time supporting kids, networking and enjoying in this friendly community!

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? The weather is looking optimal for a jaunt to the Tanger Outlets in Byron Center for a stroll around the 2017 West Michigan Chalk Art Festival!

Sponsored by the Byron Community Wellness Foundation, the WMCAF is a great event for everyone! Visit the link for information on participating as an artist or just stroll the festival and take in the area talent. For examples of the stunning chalk art you might see, check out the website for a gallery of past years' winners.

It's a steamy week out there, so a trip to the legendary Housemans Ice Cream in the heart of Byron Center would be a terrific follow-up to the WMCAF.

The Van Singel Fine Arts Center has offered access to the arts to the Byron Center community for nearly 20 years. Come see a play with parking that is free and easy. Here's proof of Van Singel's impact: in the years prior to the Van Singel's opening, Byron Center's High School student participation was 10-23 students in Marching Band, with 16 students in Visual Arts. The Orchestra, Jazz Band, Jazz Orchestra and Theater program did not exist.

Today, growth in Byron Center is exploding and Van Singel's impact continues. There are 180 students in Marching Band, and 60 students in the Jazz Ensembles. Remarkably, the Byron Center Jazz Orchestra was recognized as one of the Top 15 in the United States. The students had the opportunity to perform at the Lincoln Center in New York. Today, there are over 120 students in the growing visual arts program where they learn web design and animation, film and video, and traditional painting and drawing. We are thankful for this outstanding organization, creatively impacting Byron Center.

Byron Center area folks are very caring about the other people in the community. Byron Ministries a conglomerate of local churches was started to help those who had problems making ends meet. They had food drives at the local churches and then started a food pantry. When it became overwhelming in the current location, Buist Community Assistance took over the food part and Byron Ministries took over the health care and cleaning/paper supplies. The Byron Center area people have come together to help out each other whenever there is a need.
