  • Tucked away on the shores of Lake Michigan in the heart of Leelanau County, this is a beach town like no other.
  • If you spend enough time in Leelanau County, you're bound to come across a Leland Blue Stone either on the beach or in a shop. These beautiful blue stones are unique to Leland and many people spend hours combing the beaches of Leland looking for them. But where do they come from and why are they only found in Leland? The Leland Blue Stones are actually slag - a waste product from the smelting process used by the Leland Lake Superior Iron Company which operated in Leland from 1870-1885.
  • It's a candy store located below the dam. This cute little store is located in one of the original fish shanties of Leland's Fish Town. They offer a wide variety of old fashioned candies and hand-scooped ice cream. And of course, every kid, young and old loves to say the name.

  • On the way back from Northport yesterday on beautiful M-22, I treated myself to a glass of iced tea and some munchies at The Cove restaurant by the dam in Leland. It was truly a relaxing respite listening and watching the beautiful green waters from Lake Leelanau spilling over the dam on its way to Lake Michigan and Leland Harbor. Visiting historic Fishtown and its quaint shops, taking in all the old buildings and boats, and watching tourists and a wedding party truly made my day. Of course, I could not leave Fishtown until I stopped by Carlson's Smoke House and got myself a piece of smoked whitefish! Pure Michigan!
