Looking to be close to Traverse City, but not necessarily right in town? Maybe you'd like some acreage or privacy with the ability to be close to trails, rivers and an abundance of state land all while being just a short distance from town. Interlochen may be just the place for you! Interlochen is famously known for our amazing Art's Academy, but located just across the street from that is the Interlochen State Park. Here you can enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, snowshoeing...you name it!

With an incredible 187 acres between Duck Lake and Green Lake the options are endless, and just a few miles down the road you will find entry to the Platte River where you can jump in your kayaks and take a trip down the beautiful Platte River. Whether you're looking to visit or find your forever home, Interlochen offers the quiet peaceful experience of the beauty of mother nature, all while being within 15 miles of Traverse City.

For most people outside of Michigan the word Interlochen means just one thing...the Interlochen Center for the Arts (www.Interlochen.org ). While the Arts Academy has made Interlochen famous, Interlochen has a lot more to offer. First of all Interlochen is only 20-30 minutes from downtown Traverse City depending on which way you go, the time of day or the time of year. On average it is a very short commute to the shopping mall, the airport or dining.

As a resident of Duck Lake Peninsula (technically a Grawn address) I consider myself an Interlochen resident. While the Village is quite small it has all the amenities you would need short of a clothing store. Flanked on the East by Duck Lake, to the West by Green Lake and smack dab in the middle, just south of the village, is the Interlochen State Park and the Arts Academy. This is the state's oldest state park (say that 3 time fast).

So why do people want to live here? As a bedroom community of Traverse City, Interlochen provides easy access, miles of water frontage, and reasonable property prices. The area is a mix of locals and seasonal residents. From small cottages in the woods to sprawling vacation homes on the water and everything in between. The area boasts thousands of acres of state land, dozens of public access sites to some of the most beautiful lakes, rivers and streams in the country. Close by are golf courses, ski resorts, hiking trails and of course those Sleeping Bear Dunes.

You can find year-round starter homes in the low $100,000's all over the area. Lake homes generally start above $200,000 but occasionally deals can come along. Don't worry if owning a lake property is not in your budget. There are lots of public beaches, boat launches and picnic areas to choose.

While Interlochen is a separate village, many people who live in the area still consider it a suburb of Traverse City. The north end of the first blends into the south end of the latter, we just call it home. Come see it for yourself.

This spring has been challenging with high water levels on local inland lakes. Green Lake hasn't been an exception. Some property owners are reinforcing their stone break walls but overall not much damage. Just some laying water near the waters edge from the spring thaw. The extra ice this year has been good to get water levels back up. After a few more warm days in May, Green Lake will be back to ideal level.
