Frankfort Area Insight

  • Frankfort Beach is a quaint beach along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. The public beach in Frankfort offers parking, however very limited, a playground, benches, and walkway to the pier. The pier will lead you to Frankfort North Breakwater Lighthouse, first lit in 1932. Visitors can walk out on the pier to the lighthouse, fish, or just enjoy the incredible views of Lake Michigan. Even if you don't make it down the pier, you'll still enjoy the amazing views of the lighthouse against the deep blue shades of Lake Michigan while digging your toes into the sand.

After your day at the beach, you'll want to be sure to check out the small downtown area. Great things come in small packages. If ice cream, fudge, and chocolates don't do the trick you will find all kinds of unique stores. From jewelry to art and of course good food! Come see for yourself, we know you won't be disappointed.

    Frankfort, MI
Our community used to be the "hidden gem" that only a few people had discovered over time. But over the past years, the area has been rocketed to the top in the minds of a lot of people. In recent years, the town has been featured as the most beautiful place on earth by Good Morning America; a large back page picture from across the bay of Frankfort at night was in USA Today; and we were featured in National Geographic magazine. These are just a few examples of what has brought this quiet community to the forefront. The majestic Sleeping Bear Dunes are truly a one of a kind. You just can't beat the crystal clear waters and miles of beach in the area, as well as the walking and bicycling trails that you can start in Frankfort and go for miles if you want. The Nature Conservancy has expounded on this even further, creating numerous walking trails through the woods up and down the coastline.
  • One of my favorite things about the Frankfort area is it is so pedestrian friendly! I regularly walk the Betsie Valley Trail. The views of the Betsie Bay, Frankfort, Elberta, and the Betsie River are my favorite Zen all year round. When I leave my house and hit the top of the hill of my road on the way to the trail, I instantly leave all worries and business behind, and commune with nature. It's a great way to re-align and reset for the day!
