I connected with Larry Wetherby by pure serendipity. I live in Northville but was looking t find a condo in Jackson to retire to. I googled condos in Jackson and waded through hordes of prospects, gradually defining what I wanted or didn’t want. I found one that looked promising, and called the realtor who had listed in -who turned out to be Larry. He made an appointment for me to see it the next day {a Sunday!} and my search was launched.
The condo turned out not to be for me, but in the time I spent with Larry he quizzed me about what wasn’t there that I would like as well as things about it I disliked. He asked if I’d like him to forward listings that sounded like they’d appeal to me. I agreed to this, said goodbye.and the next day started getting listings that seemed appropriate, though never any phone calls from him.
I wasn’t in a hurry and I let a week or two go by. Then a friend told me about a new condo complex she’d just bought into. I saw her place, which was beautifully decorated though awfully large for me, and called her realtor to see about viewing some. This man too was accommodating and very soon after showed me three condos in the complex with different layouts ,dimensions and fixtures. All were nice but I left convinced they were all way too large for my needs. He too offered to send me listings he thought would please me. Thus far , these two realtors might seem two of a kind. But as I continued to look at sites both of them recommended, I very soon became aware of subtle but important differences. The second agent never really tried to pin down what i was looking for, to pick up on my needs, much less my tastes. At times I got the feeling I was wasting his time; seeing a unit twice seemed to him proof that I was sold on it and needed only some explaining away of my objections to it. He also exerted subtle pressure for a quick decision , warning that I was in danger of losing it. I do sympathize with these agents who must spend a LOT of their time helping some clients with no payback at all. But I was looking for what will be my last home and I didn’t want to be made to feel guilty for holding out for something I loved,
Meanwhile I was still looking at condos Larry had found for me. All of them were nice but none was perfect for me. And he never tried to convince me they were close enough, never acted like I was wasting his time. He was knowledgeable, always available [ often on Sundays when I was in town] and I was totally comfortable working with him and enjoyed his company. And then one day he called me about a listing that had just popped up that morning. He knew the complex ,knew I’d love the location, and also knew this one would go very fast and seemed like something I wouldn’t want to miss. We went to see it the same afternoon - and I knew as soon as I had seen the inside that this was IT.
From the day of that first visit to the day we closed on the condo, Larry was a fountain of knowledge and good advice, answering all my questions while guiding me thru that complex process. In my opinion he is the perfect
estate agent, understanding perfectly that a home is more than four walls ,even when the walls are sound and attractive, that “perfection” is a quality unique to each individual. And from the start he was dedicated to helping me find my perfect place.Every would- be home owner deserves some one like Larry Wetherby really listening to his needs and assisting his search to fulfill them. I was very fortunate to have found him.
